Province creates Ontario Corps to respond to emergencies
Premier Doug Ford has announced on Friday, the creation of Ontario Corps, a new initiative designed to support communities during natural disasters and emergencies.
The program will deploy skilled professionals and volunteers to provide vital services like emergency shelter, food, and flood protection.
Premier Ford says "With the launch of Ontario Corps, we’re harnessing the Ontario spirit to help communities and neighbours in need deal with natural disasters."
The initiative will work with organizations like Feed Ontario and GlobalMedic to respond quickly, with equipment and volunteers ready to assist within 24 to 72 hours. The program aims to promote civic engagement and strengthen emergency preparedness across the province.
Gravenhurst Mayor Heidi Lorenz added that the town is grateful for all their support through their emergency in Gravenhurst. “We called and they answered. We are certain that Ontario Corps will be a useful resource to other communities experiencing emergencies in the future," she said.
