Province launches home reno savings program

MPP Graydon Smith applauded the provincial government’s launch of a new energy efficiency program, including the Home Renovation Savings Program, to help families and businesses save money.

The program will cover up to 30% of costs for home energy upgrades like windows, insulation, heat pumps, and solar panels, starting January 28, 2025.

It will also offer rebates for energy-efficient appliances later in the year. Additionally, a new program targeting small businesses will provide financial incentives for smart thermostat installations.

However, the Ontario Green Party’s Matt Richter is criticizing the province’s new energy efficiency program, claiming it will be inaccessible to low and middle-income households in Parry Sound-Muskoka. The Greens argue that the program fails to support those who need it most.

By 2036, these programs are expected to reduce Ontario's peak demand by 3,000 megawatts, saving residents billions in electricity costs.
