Smith blasts Greens over carbon policies

MPP Graydon Smith is defending Ontario’s new energy efficiency program, saying it will help families and businesses save money by covering up to 30% of costs for energy upgrades like heat pumps and solar panels. He argues that the program will reduce energy demand and save billions in electricity costs.

However, Ontario Green Party representative Matt Richter is critical, claiming the program is inaccessible to low and middle-income households in Parry Sound-Muskoka. He also accused the government of failing to prioritize those in need, while the Greens push for more ambitious measures to fight climate change.

Smith, however, blasted the Greens for policies that could make life more expensive for Ontarians, like raising the carbon tax from $80/ton to $300/tone and banning natural gas hookups.

Smith added on Facebook that the Green’s policies are punitive, “They want to make life so unaffordable that you have to make radical changes to the way you live in order to comport with their ideology,” he says.
