South Muskoka Shield On The Move Again
After stints in Gravenhurst and Port Carling, the South Muskoka Shield will call Bracebridge home next season.
Bracebridge councillors agreed to a three year lease with the team during their most recent general committee meeting. The Shield play in the Greater Metro Junior A League and were founded in 2006.
Bracebridge councillors noted that the town hasn’t had much luck with junior teams like the Bracebridge Pioneers and Bracebridge Blues who folded quickly into their tenure.
They were told by Town staff that the owners of the Shield are both Bracebridge residents and are eager to take advantage of the new rink currently being built.
Staff said the team had originally left Gravenhurst because they were unable to reach suitable terms and conditions with the Town.
