Shoreline Development A Big Part Of Muskoka Lakes OP Re-write
Muskoka Lakes staff and council are getting set to rewrite their Official Plan with an eye towards waterfront development.
During their latest council meeting, director of planning David Pink said the OP is the most significant project in the planning department, as the document provides the township’s vision for the next 20 years.
Advocacy groups in the area have been pushing strongly to see tighter controls on waterfront development and the Friends of Muskoka organization told council they were pleased that it looks like the new OP would be environmentally centered.
Muskoka Lakes Mayor Phil Harding said he would like two areas addressed specifically: multi-generation accommodations on one lot and commercial waterfront properties.
Staff have now been asked to draft an RFP and hire a consultant. An Official Plan steering committee will also be formed. Staff said the entire process will likely take two years.
