Watershed Report Card Released
The Muskoka Watershed Report Card was released earlier this month. The report is a science-based evaluation of the health of the watershed using a variety of environmental indicators, including health indicators like phosphorus and calcium concentrations in lakes, benthic macroinvertebrates, and interior forest habitat; and threat indicators like climate change, invasive species, fragmentation, and species at risk.
The Watershed Council is urging residents to get involved in citizen science programs including calcium and phosphorus detection, invasive species and species at risk reporting. They advise residents to support your municipality’s green initiatives such as decreasing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
