Gravenhurst asks for input on ward boundary review

Posted: 2024-06-24 14:03:21 By: thebay

The Town of Gravenhurst is conducting a Council Composition and Ward Boundary Review.

The town says the purpose of the review is to ensure that residents have equitable access to their elected representatives.

Currently, Gravenhurst uses a five ward system with one councillor elected to serve the residents of each ward.

The mayor and three district councillors are elected at-large by all the residents of the town. The mayor also sits at district council.

Changes could involve adjustments to existing ward boundaries, the creation of new wards, or the establishment of fewer wards. Another option would be to dissolve all wards and move to an at-large system.

Residents are invited to participate in a survey at EngageGravenhurst.ca

The town will be holding in person information session on July 5th and a virtual session on July 9th.

Based on what the review determines, council could chose to maintain the status quo or make changes.
