Man fined for having black bear gall bladders

Hoa Phan from Gravenhurst has been fined $6,500 for unlawfully possessing three black bear gall bladders. Conservation officers found Phan with the prohibited items, which were confirmed by forensic analysis as originating from black bears.
Under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act it is illegal for a person to possess a black bear gall bladder that has been removed from the bear's carcass.
The case, heard on May 30th in Bracebridge, involved the Intelligence and Investigations Services, University of Guelph, and Trent University’s Forensic Center.
