OPP remind drivers that it is illegal to pass a snowplow
The OPP are advising that in September 2023, the province introduced a new law making it illegal to pass a working snow plow.
OPP says the change aims to improve safety and reduce collisions. Drivers cannot pass snow plows working in echelon formation on multi-lane roads with a speed limit of 80 km/h or more. Passing is only allowed if the lane is clear of the plow, including its blade.
Violators face fines from $150 to $1,000, and could also face charges for stunt driving, careless driving, or dangerous driving. In some cases, drivers may have their license suspended and vehicle impounded.
