SIU clears Huntsville OPP in multiple shooting incident
Ontario’s Special Investigation Unit has cleared Huntsville OPP officers in relation to an incident that took place on the evening of October 25, 2024, after Huntsville residents reported hearing multiple gunshots.
The SIU says that around 9 p.m., a 52-year-old man called the OPP, saying he had shot and killed two family members in their home. Officers arrived on the scene and made contact with the man by phone, but he refused to surrender, stating he was armed and planned to take his own life.
A drone sent inside the home confirmed the deaths of two women and a dog. The man was later found in the basement with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Following an investigation, SIU Director Joseph Martino determined there were no grounds to lay criminal charges against the critical incident commander.
