SIU clears officers involved in the arrest of a South River man
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has concluded its investigation into the arrest of a 29-year-old man in South River on November 5th.
The man was at a gas station on Highway 124 when an unmarked police cruiser arrived, and two officers informed him that he was under arrest for a drug-related offence.
He fled southbound on Highway 124 but stopped shortly after and exited his vehicle. Following a struggle with the officers, he was arrested and taken to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with three fractured ribs and a collapsed lung.
SIU Director Joseph Martino determined that there were no reasonable grounds to believe an officer committed a criminal offence in connection with the arrest and the man’s injuries.
