Almaguin residents question amalgamation

Residents in Sundridge, and Strong and Joly Townships are raising concerns about a proposed municipal amalgamation, with property taxes being the top issue.
A recent public meeting saw 180 attendees, while an online survey found most feared higher taxes without better services.
Other concerns included uneven service distribution, road maintenance, and loss of local identity.
Officials say they’re working to address misinformation, including fears that some residents would have to pay for Sundridge’s sewer system—something they say won’t happen.
A second public meeting is planned for the spring to provide more answers.
