Blue-green algae bloom confirmed in Longs Lake
The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed a blue-green algae bloom at Longs Lake in Huntsville, following tests from the Ministry of the Environment. The health unit says that blue-green algae can produce harmful toxins for humans and animals.
Residents are urged to exercise caution and avoid using affected private water supplies, especially for infant formula. Additionally, pets and livestock should not drink or swim in contaminated waters, and fishing should be approached with care due to potential toxins in fish.
