Gravenhurst councilors hear about home waste diversion technology
Jacob Hanlon from Food Cycle Corporation presented the Food Cycler Municipal Pilot Program to Gravenhurst Council members at a recent meeting. The initiative aims to assess the effectiveness of on-site food waste processing technology for waste diversion.
The FoodCyclers are countertop devices that transform food scraps into an odorless powder, perfect for garden use. Hanlon highlighted Georgian Bay Township as a participating municipality.
Councilors heard the pilot program not only helps reduce household food waste but also supports environmental goals and extends landfill life.
Mayor Heidi Lorenz expressed gratitude to Hanlon for the informative presentation, but did not express any support for the program.
