Huntsville conducting housing needs study
The Town of Huntsville says it recognizes housing as a critical community need in its Strategic Plan and is actively exploring ways to facilitate the construction of much-needed homes.
The Town, working with other levels of government, is implementing initiatives aimed at alleviating housing pressures, including reducing barriers for multiple residential developments and offering rebates on development fees for affordable housing.
Mayor Nancy Alcock senses the urgency, saying that while policy changes have been made, local needs have not yet been fully addressed.
To tackle immediate and future housing challenges, the Town is conducting a Housing Needs Assessment. This assessment will evaluate the current housing situation, document demand, and identify limitations in supply.
The Town is encouraging public input through a Housing Needs Assessment Survey, available until October 10, 2024, at myhuntsville.ca. Additionally, a Housing Needs Open House will be held on October 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Partner’s Hall. Alcock says community feedback will be crucial in shaping new policies aimed at improving housing affordability and access for all residents.
