Lake of Bays Mayor proclaims a new 'Good Deeds Day' for the Township
Lake of Bays Mayor, Terry Glover, proclaimed a new 'Good Deeds Day' for the Township, in the March 11, 2025, meeting.
He said the proclamation was inspired by the Huntsville Sting U13-Black Hockey Team.
Last year the team completed more than 1,300 good deeds as a part of the annual Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup Champions.
According to Chevrolet, 1358 Good Deeds were submitted, however, the Huntsville team “helped us do the most Good Dees in cup history.
Glover said the team was given $100,000 for winning the contest to donate to a charity of their choice, and they chose Food 4 Kids Muskoka as their recipient.
According to the charity, their goal is “to ensure that no child goes a weekend without food.” They provide 12-14 nutritious foods items for kids to take home on the weekend because they might not have it otherwise.
They indicate, “When children receive the nourishment they need, a whole new world opens up. They can concentrate better in class, have higher energy levels, improve test scores and attendance, and become more social.”
Glover praised the hockey team for their efforts and positive impact. He said, “Every act of kindness, no matter how big or small, has the power to create meaningful change, inspire others, and foster a culture of compassion, unity and goodwill within our community.”
In recognition of the team’s acts of kindness, Glover’s proclamation read, “I, Mayor Terry Glover, on behalf of the Township of Lake of Bays Council, do hereby proclaim March 16 as Good Deeds Day in the Township of Lake of Bays.”
Councillor, Robert Lacroix, suggested the Township have an annual event “to honour and participate in it…free skating, a picnic, barbecue, or something the Township will participate in.”
Staff said the Township’s Communication Team will consider ideas and create a plan.
