Obstetrics services moves to Huntsville

Labour and delivery services at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital will be temporarily moved to Huntsville District Memorial Hospital for the next year.
Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare says the move follows consultations with clinical teams and aims to address staffing challenges, low patient volumes, and safety concerns. Patients who arrive in labour at South Muskoka will be assessed, stabilized, and transferred to Huntsville, though emergency obstetrical care will remain available.
Officials say the decision will be reassessed in six and nine months, with the goal of restoring services when safe.
