Lake of Bays seeking input on accommodation tax proposal
The Township of Lake of Bays has released a Draft Municipal Accommodation Tax By-law for public review. The municipality says the proposed program aims to boost local tourism through initiatives like area promotion and event expansion.
Key points include a proposed 4% tax on short-term overnight accommodations, which will be collected from visitors, not providers. The tax is set to take effect on January 1, 2025, with estimated annual revenue ranging from $750,000 to $1.5 million.
Residents can provide feedback through an online survey, open until October 18. A public meeting will be held on November 12 for further discussion.
