MNR hope to re-locate bears near Spruce Glenn Public School
Yesterday, Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources staff were on-site at Spruce Glenn Public school trying to capture a family of bears spotted near the school. The bears had triggered hold and secure procedures three days in a row.
The MNR says that once captured, the bears will be relocated to a more suitable habitat. In the past, bears near populated areas like schools have sometimes moved on their own, so staff will keep a close watch.
The MNR has been actively educating the community about bear behavior and proper waste management to prevent these encounters.
Officials say recent sightings are likely due to attractants like unsecured garbage.
To reduce bear interactions, residents should use bear-proof containers and secure birdfeeders.
