Muskoka stop part of a flight marking the first around-the-world journey

Two veteran pilots are expected to land their single-engine biplane at Muskoka Airport today as part of their 100-day round-the-world journey, marking the centenary of the first successful global flight.

Their journey, which began on June 1 from Papua New Guinea, has taken them across the Pacific, Russia, the UK, and the North Atlantic.

This trip commemorates the 1924 flight by four Douglas Air Cruisers that completed the first round-the-world journey. The current pilots, Bob Bates and Barry Payne, are retracing the historic route in a Piper Comanche.
