OPP warn of concert ticket scams

The Central Region of the Ontario Provincial Police is warning the public about increased fraud risks when purchasing concert tickets and other items on Facebook. Reports of scams are rising, particularly through Facebook Marketplace and Messenger, where hackers are impersonating friends to sell tickets.
The OPP advises consumers to verify transactions by contacting the seller outside of Facebook or arranging in-person meetings. Warning signs include prices that seem too low, requests for e-transfer payments, messages with grammatical errors, and listings posted in multiple Facebook groups.
To avoid falling victim to these scams, always double-check with a family member or trusted friend before sending any money.
