Physicians present alternative hospital plan

During a recent meeting, Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare’s Credentialed Staff Association (CSA) discussed an alternative proposal to MAHC’s healthcare system plan.

Endorsed by 47 physicians and the Cottage Country Family Health Team, the "Care Close to Home" proposal prioritizes patient care. It suggests allocating 50 inpatient beds at Huntsville District Memorial Hospital (HDMH) for stroke care and 90 beds for rehabilitation at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital (SMMH) in Bracebridge.

This contrasts with MAHC's plan, which allocates more beds to HDMH. Both plans include 24/7 emergency departments at both locations.

The next steps involve releasing consultant reports on site selection and cost analysis, ensuring transparency in collaboration with the community and healthcare partners.

The physicians emphasized the need for accurate cost information to develop the best possible plan within budget constraints.
