In a significant development for healthcare in South Muskoka, MPP Graydon Smith has expressed strong support for the Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare Capital Redevelopment Committee's recent decision to recommend adding 10 new beds to the proposed Bracebridge hospital. This adjustment raises the total number of beds to 46, a move that Smith calls “a tremendously positive development.”

Smith highlighted the backing from 45 local physicians, thanking the medical community for their dedication in advocating for enhanced healthcare services. Smith also acknowledged the efforts of local residents and elected officials, particularly Bracebridge Mayor Rick Maloney, in raising awareness about the pressing need for more hospital beds.

“I believe this development represents a ‘win-win’ scenario for our community,” Smith stated, reaffirming his commitment to ensuring that the South Muskoka hospital will provide comprehensive acute care services.

With the government’s capital investment in MAHC’s redevelopment being one of the largest on a per-capita basis in Canada, Smith reiterated his dedication to advocating for stronger, healthier communities in Muskoka and Almaguin.
