South Muskoka Doctors optimistic about acute care bed increase for new Bracebridge hospital build
In response to the MAHC's proposed hospital redevelopment plan, doctors in South Muskoka are expressing cautious optimism over the recommendation to increase acute care beds at the proposed Bracebridge site from 36 to 46.
The MAHC Capital Redevelopment Committee will present this proposal at the Board of Directors meeting tomorrow.
While the increase falls short of the “Care Close to Home” model, the physicians commend the strong community advocacy and support from local politicians, particularly MPP Graydon Smith, for pushing this change. They believe that having 46 acute care beds will adequately meet the basic healthcare needs of South Muskoka, especially with potential options for future expansion.
Originally, only 14 beds were planned, but through months of advocacy, the community has successfully influenced this significant improvement. The doctors are hopeful that the Board will approve the recommendation, ensuring a more sustainable healthcare system for the region.
