Huntsville Council Urges Province To Improve At Grade Intersections On Hwy 11
Huntsville Town the council approved a motion that urges the province move forward on safety improvements for a section of Hwy 11 between Stephenson Rd. 1, and Hwy 60 at Monday night’s council meeting.
There have been 950 road accidents along this section of Hwy in the last 10 years, as well as many close calls.
The Ministry of Transportation studied the road conditions along this route a decade ago, and proposed closing these at grade intersections and replacing them with safer intersections, but nothing has been done.
A grass roots community group called Safer Hwy 11 Muskoka has launched a petition with the support of several hundred residents and cottagers that calls on the provincial government to finally move forward by funding the project, and including it in the 2020 budget.
The resolution will be forwarded to the province.
