Police receiving reports of people going through cars in Gravenhurst

OPP report having received multiple complaints recently from residents in Gravenhurst about their vehicles being entered during the nighttime hours and in some cases, their valuables stolen from inside.
Police say this type of criminal activity is perpetrated by people looking for money, gift cards or credit cards and/or items that are easy to sell or trade from inside of an unlocked vehicle. In most cases, simply locking the vehicle doors is adequate prevention.
Police recommend you:
- Remove any valuables from your vehicle
- Remove change or money from view
- Park your vehicle in a well lit area
- Invest in home surveillance, and
- Install motion lights
