Police warn of Valentine's Day scam
With Valentine’s Day near, the OPP is warning about romance fraud, which cost Canadians over $58 million in 2024.
Police say that scammers build trust through fake profiles, then pressure victims to send money or invest in fraudulent ventures, often involving cryptocurrency.
Red flags include quick declarations of love, avoiding in-person meetings, or urgent money requests.
If you suspect fraud, contact, OPP or Crime Stoppers.
