New STR by-law coming into effect January 1st in Muskoka Lakes

Yesterday, Muskoka Lakes Council approved a Short Term Rental Accommodation Licensing By-Law for the municipality. While the by-law has been approved, it will not come into effect until January 1, 2025.
Mayor Peter Kelley said that he hopes that when this by-law is fully implemented, they’ll see a decrease in the number of community concerns.
The licensing program was initiated by the Township to ensure all rentals preserve neighbourhood character and operate safely and in accordance with Fire Protection Standards and the Ontario Building Code.
The public should anticipate that further information will be shared in the coming months.
