The Huntsville Festival of the Arts is showcasing its second annual ribbon skirt installation starting on Thursday.

"Sacred Strength – An Indigenous Ribbon Skirt Installation" is a free exhibit that highlights traditional Indigenous ribbon skirts, crafted with vibrant fabrics and symbolic patterns.

Hope Arises Project founder and president, Joyce Jonathan Crone, travelled to Huron Heights Secondary School to share her knowledge of Indigenous ribbon skirts and cultural practices with grade 11/12 fashion students.

The students spent a month sewing and crafting unique skirts, and found their connection with the project a humbling experience.

Crone, describes the exhibit as a profound experience, inviting visitors to connect deeply with the stories behind the skirts. The installation runs Thursday through Sunday, weekly, and coincides with the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30.

The installation can be found at the HFA Studio across from River Mill Park in Huntsville.
